Nagle College Launches New STEM Scholarship for Future Innovators

28 Oct 2025

Nagle Catholic College students

Nagle College Blacktown has announced the launch of the “Christine Howe STEM Academic Scholarship”, a new opportunity designed to support and inspire young women passionate about STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

Students enrolling in Year 7 from 2026 are eligible to apply for the scholarship, which reflects the College’s ongoing commitment to excellence in learning within a supportive Catholic community.

Recipients of the scholarship will not only receive either a full or partial discount on College tuition fees, but will join the specialised “Lumen Mathematics” class. Students in this class are selected for their exceptional skill in numeracy and are provided with advanced programs and enrichment opportunities that nurture curiosity, creativity and problem-solving skills. Both the scholarship and Lumen Class aim to open pathways for girls to explore STEM fields with confidence, preparing them for future study and leadership in a rapidly evolving world.

Deborah Scollard, Interim Principal, says the scholarship embodies the College’s mission to educate the whole person in the tradition of Nano Nagle, an Irish Catholic education pioneer known as the “Lady of the Lantern.”

“Students are encouraged to let their light shine by using their gifts and talents to make a difference in their communities and beyond. The scholarship also highlights our belief here at Nagle, that every child deserves the chance to thrive, regardless of circumstance,” Deborah said.

“By supporting excellence and opportunity in STEM, the College continues its proud legacy of empowering young women to shape the future with faith, purpose and compassion.”

Applications are now being accepted for the Christine Howe STEM Academic Scholarship.

🌏 Faith in Action Across the World 🌏 This afternoon, our FIAT Team had the wonderful opportunity to meet with members of the Sisters of Mercy and representatives from Mercy Works from Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, and Timor-Leste. Together, we shared how Faith in Action is making a difference in communities across the globe. This special meeting coincides with Mercy Works' 25th Anniversary – celebrating 25 years of walking alongside vulnerable communities to create lasting change. Since 2000, Mercy Works has partnered with grassroots organisations throughout Australia and the Asia-Pacific to foster capacity, dignity, and self-reliance, with a special focus on empowering women and children. 💙 We are proud to continue the Mercy story and to be part of this global mission of compassion and service.

✨ Today we did something truly special. ✨ As a school community, we came together to celebrate peace and light, inspired by Jesus’ example and the symbol of light that shines across many faiths. We also took time to acknowledge and honour our Hindu friends, who celebrate light during this time of year. Together, we lit a Catholic candle and a Hindu Diya, symbols of unity and hope, reminding us that we are stronger as one — united in peace. 🕯️✨ Our celebration continued with a pilgrimage of peace and hope, where each step reflected our shared commitment to kindness and understanding. We finished beneath a symbolic archway, marking a promise to ourselves and to others: to be peacemakers in our world. 🌏💛 To mark this commitment, we also planted a Tree of Peace as a living symbol of hope, harmony, and unity for generations to come. #PeaceAndLight #UnityInDiversity #WeAreOne #FaithInAction

✨ What a Week of Mercy! ✨ Last term, our school community came together to celebrate a truly amazing Week of Mercy. Each day began with a heartfelt Mercy prayer led by our inspiring Year 6 students, setting the tone for a week filled with compassion, reflection and joy. Our beautiful Mercy liturgy was a standout moment with a magical reflection brought to life by our talented choir and dance group. We were also blessed to have Srs Antoinette, Sally and Margaret join us for the liturgy and present the Mercy Awards, recognising students who live out the Mercy values in their everyday actions. The celebrations continued with our much-loved Mercy Cup, a fierce but friendly netball showdown between the teachers and students 🏐. This was all wrapped up with the incredible Mercy Markets, organised by Year 6. Through their creativity and generosity, they raised an amazing $2,403.10 for Mercy Works! 💙 Take a look at the snaps capturing the joy, faith and spirit of the magical Mercy Week that was! 🌿✨
