Catholic Faith and Life

At St Anthony's we are committed to offering a Catholic education for all.

Education within the Diocese of Parramatta is a ministry of the Catholic Church, walking with humility in the way of Jesus, serving all of God's people.

A Catholic learning community

As a Catholic school, the way we work and live is shaped by a commitment to reflect the love and teachings of Jesus Christ.  As Jesus welcomed all in his life on earth, so do we seek to walk with humility with all those who seek to belong to our community, and do all we can to enable them to flourish.

Religious Education

Connecting with the Catholic faith and traditions in a meaningful way enriches students' lives.  A program of Religious Education, directed by Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese, is part of the classroom learning in every grade of school.

Liturgy and prayer

Prayer is part of the daily life of our school, and students are invited to engage in a range of different types of prayer.  We celebrate major feast days and seasons of the Church year, as well as occasions important in the lives of the students.  This involves participation in Masses at our parish church from time to time, as well as Celebrations of the Word of God at school.

Social justice

Putting our faith in action, we engage at different times of the year in social justice initiatives that encourage students to see needs in our world, think about ways those needs, and act to show love and concern to others.  Sometimes this will involve inviting all families in our community to make contributions to charitable organisations. Senior students have the opportunity to participate in our Mini Vinnies group, a school-based work of the St Vincent de Paul Society.

Mercy charism

As our school was established by the Sisters of Mercy, we have been richly blessed by their story and values.  Our Mercy Values are a way that we particularly acknowledge and teach the qualities we believe are essential to living the mission of Jesus.

Parish partnership

As part of the parish of St Anthony of Padua, Toongabbie, we work to engage our community in the life of the parish.  This occurs through liturgical celebrations, social justice and other parish activities from time to time.  Our parish priest is involved in liturgical celebrations, and is invited to some occasions to contribute to classroom learning in Religious Education.

From Year 3 onwards, Catholic families may also seek to celebrate the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation.  The preparation for, and celebration of these sacraments takes place in the parish community.  Contact the parish office to find out more.

Come and see learning in action at St Anthony’s Primary!

We’d love a chance to show you how learning works for young people in our school. Our dedicated teachers plan the learning in detail to help each child do his or her best.
