One moment your child is holding your hand at the school gate and before you know it, they're walking in confidently, greeting friends by name, carrying their own bag, and coming home full of stories about 'assembly' and 'sport'.
Here’s what to expect in their first 100 days of Kindergarten.
What’s really happening
The first 100 days are about so much more than learning letters and numbers. Your child is building social skills, resilience, independence and confidence all at once. They're figuring out how to make friends, ask for help, follow a routine and recover when things don't go their way.
"In Kindergarten we teach children to read, write and count, but we also teach them how to be. How to listen, how to keep going when something feels hard, how to treat the person sitting next to them. That combination is what a strong foundation actually looks like," says Lisa Crampton, Head of Primary Learning at Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese.
Alongside this, children begin developing early literacy and numeracy through clear instructions - recognising sounds and letters, experimenting with reading and writing, and exploring numbers and patterns.
The changes parents notice at home
By day 100, most children show a noticeable shift. A little more confidence at drop-off, more stories at dinner and a growing sense of belonging within their school community.
They start organising their belongings independently, speaking more confidently, asking deeper questions and becoming more curious about the world around them. They also begin developing important emotional skills like patience, empathy and self-regulation.
What you can do
The link between home and school is one of the strongest predictors of early learning success, and parents play a bigger role than they often realise.
"A child who feels that home and school are on the same team arrives ready to learn. Reading together each evening, asking open questions about the school day, and maintaining a calm, consistent routine all make a real difference to how settled and confident a child feels,” says Lisa.
For parents, the first 100 days are often filled with milestones both big and small. The first school friend, the first book brought home, the first time your child looks up and says, "I can do it myself."

They spent time with the St Anthony of Padua Craft Group, sharing stories, laughter, and skills across generations. It was a wonderful opportunity to build connections and experience the joy of community. We look forward to continuing to share Christ’s peace and hospitality with others throughout the term.

🐼🐧🐆 Year 1 Scientists at Work! 🐆🐧🐼 Our Year 1 students have been busy exploring the Living World strand of Science, investigating the features and needs of living things. As part of their learning, they researched fascinating animals including cheetahs, penguins and pandas, gathering facts about their habitats, diets, behaviours and unique characteristics. Students then applied their learning by creating detailed information reports and labelled diagrams, helping them communicate scientific information clearly and accurately. This allowed them to demonstrate their understanding of how living things grow, survive and interact with their environments. To celebrate their learning, our Year 1 students shared their work with their Year 6 buddies. The older students provided thoughtful peer feedback, highlighting strengths and offering helpful suggestions to make the reports even better. It was wonderful to see students learning together, supporting one another and growing in confidence as communicators. Mark Taylor Shield - Round 2 Round 2 of the Mark Taylor Shield saw the boys produce a spirited performance despite falling short on the scoreboard. This morning, we came together as a community for a beautiful Mother’s Day Liturgy as we celebrated and gave thanks for the mothers, grandmothers, carers, and special women in our lives. 💐 Through prayer, song, and reflection, we were reminded of the love, strength, kindness, and care that mothers share so generously each day. As we sang You Raise Me Up, we reflected on the many ways our mothers and loved ones lift us up with their encouragement, support, and unconditional love, helping us grow with confidence, courage, and faith. Thank you to everyone who helped make our liturgy so meaningful and special. We wish all the wonderful women in our community a very happy and blessed Mother’s Day 🩷
